The Green Bay Packers may take an aggressive approach to improving their roster during the 2025 NFL offseason after general manager Brian Gutekunst stated in January that the team is “ready” to begin competing for championships.
However, the question remains: are they willing to be aggressive enough to inquire about star wide receiver, who the San Francisco 49ers might be open to trading?
Last week, during the NFL Scouting Combine, the 49ers agreed to trade veteran Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a 2025 fifth-round pick. Despite that move, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, San Francisco is still considering trading the experienced player who signed a $120 million contract extension last offseason—as part of their effort to get younger.
Given the Packers’ need for a top-tier wide receiver to complement starting quarterback Jordan Love, they would naturally be strong contenders for Aiyuk. According to Over the Cap, they also have around $48.8 million in cap space, which would allow them to fit his contract, including option bonuses of $22.86 million in 2025 and $24.94 million in 2026.

In this trade proposal, the Packers would make a major move with the 49ers, trading their 2025 second-round pick (No. 54 overall) and wide receiver Romeo Doubs in exchange for Aiyuk, who led the team in receiving yards in both 2023 and 2022. This would bring the high-priced wideout to Green Bay to boost their receiving corps.
Brandon Aiyuk Trade Would Beef Up Packers Offense
The Packers have been trying to make their four drafted wide receivers work with Jordan Love as their starter over the past two seasons, but there’s an increasing sense that they need — and want — a more dynamic primary target who can take over games. Brandon Aiyuk could be that guy, provided he returns to form after recovering from his ACL tear.
Before his injury last season, Aiyuk caught just 25 passes for 374 yards and no touchdowns in seven games. However, he bounced back strong in 2023, finishing with a career-high 1,342 receiving yards and an impressive 17.9 yards per reception. It marked his second consecutive season with over 1,000 yards, earning him second-team All-Pro honors.
While past injury concerns with players like David Bakhtiari and Jaire Alexander might make the Packers cautious about trading for a recently-injured player, if they’re comfortable with Aiyuk’s medical outlook, he could be the missing piece that helps them contend for a Super Bowl, joining stars like Jayden Reed and Tucker Kraft.
The more challenging aspect is the trade compensation. The Packers might be willing to part with a second-round pick and an inconsistent receiver entering the final year of his contract, but the 49ers could demand more. According to NFL insider Ari Meirov, San Francisco asked for a first-round pick when they explored trading Aiyuk before he signed his big extension last offseason. If the asking price is still a first-rounder, the Packers would likely pass on the deal.
