JUST IN: Packers Confirm To Release Pro Bowl CB

The Green Bay Packers are set to release cornerback, a two-time Pro Bowler, according to league sources on Monday.

Alexander has spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the Packers, earning Pro Bowl selections in 2020 and 2022. Drafted in the first round out of Louisville, he has faced injury issues in recent seasons, appearing in only 14 games over the past two years.

Last month, Green Bay reportedly offered him a restructured deal, according to The Athletic. He still had two years left on a contract averaging \$21 million per year.

Alexander, 28, had his most productive season in 2022, with five interceptions and 14 pass breakups in 16 games. In contrast, he played just seven games last season, tallying two interceptions and scoring one touchdown.

The news was first reported by NFL Network.

After nearly five months of uncertainty this offseason, the Packers have decided to part ways with general manager Brian Gutekunst’s first-ever draft selection, Jaire Alexander.

Alexander signed a then-record \$21 million-per-year extension for a cornerback in March 2022 and followed it up with a Second-Team All-Pro selection that season—his second such honor in three years. However, over the past two seasons, the 28-year-old has been limited to just 16 of a possible 37 games (including playoffs), missing time due to four separate injuries and serving a one-game suspension issued by the team in 2023.

Alexander carried the third-largest cap hit on the roster for 2025, trailing only quarterback Jordan Love and edge rusher Rashan Gary. The Packers attempted to trade him, hoping to recoup value from their financial commitment, but no deal came through. A proposed contract restructure also fell through, and the team ultimately chose to release him—a move that clears over \$17 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.

Heading into a season with Super Bowl hopes, the Packers now turn to Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs, and Carrington Valentine as their primary outside cornerbacks. Nixon earned praise from Gutekunst after transitioning to an outside role in 2024. Hobbs, formerly of the Raiders, was signed in free agency with plans to play both inside and outside. Valentine, a seventh-round pick in 2023, has shown flashes of potential but has struggled with consistency. With divisional matchups against elite receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson, the absence of a healthy Alexander looms large.
