Los Angeles Chargers announce big news regarding 32-year-old experienced player

The Chargers revealed that veteran edge rusher has signed a one-year contract extension, ensuring he remains in Los Angeles through the 2026 season. According to several reports, the deal is valued at up to \$6 million.

Dupree wrapped up his first season with the Chargers by posting 28 total tackles, six tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, two pass deflections, and a forced fumble — solid production for someone who began the year as the team’s fourth edge rusher behind Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, and Tuli Tuipulotu. Still, those stats don’t tell the full story.

The extension makes sense, especially given the relatively modest financial terms. While Dupree’s numbers were respectable, fans who watched every game likely noticed a handful of missed opportunities for bigger impact plays. There were several instances where he had a clear shot at the quarterback but failed to finish the play. With sharper technique and more consistent execution — particularly in closing out sacks — he has the potential to not only surpass his current numbers but possibly lead the team in sacks.

Ultimately, this is a smart, low-risk signing that adds stability to the Chargers’ edge rotation, especially with 2025 potentially marking the end of the line for Khalil Mack in Los Angeles — or in the NFL altogether. Dupree’s presence helps ensure that the pass rush remains competitive through at least the 2026 season.
