Virginia Cavaliers land massive commitment for physically gifted player

Five months after he decommitted from UVA and six months after he first committed to the school, he made it official again, announcing that he would be heading to Charlottesville to play for new head coach Ryan Odom. Odom had recruited Mallory during his time at VCU, and now, in a full-circle moment, they will reunite at Virginia.

Well, Chance Mallory is Virginia’s, and Virginia is Chance Mallory’s. Five months after Mallory decommitted from UVA and six months after he first committed to the school, he made it official on Saturday, announcing that he would be heading to Charlottesville to play for new head coach Ryan Odom. Odom had recruited Mallory during his time at VCU, and now, in a full-circle moment, they will reunite at Virginia.

The 5-foot-9 newcomer has heard critics mention his size as a limitation throughout his recruitment, but he’s used that as fuel to push himself on the court. His offensive skills, sharp shooting, speed, toughness, and unique mentality set him apart, and come fall 2025, that standout talent will be on display in orange and blue at John Paul Jones Arena.
