The Boston Red Sox have already strengthened their rotation by adding two key starters this offseason, with another potentially returning from injury in the second half, but they’re still seeking additional upgrades.

Roki Sasaki free agency: Favored Dodgers become 6th known team to meet with Japanese phenom - Yahoo Sports

One major target is Japanese pitching star Roki Sasaki, who is set to make his MLB debut in 2025. Although Sasaki has met with several teams, the Red Sox haven’t been added to his schedule yet.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow expressed hope that they could still secure a meeting, emphasizing Boston’s appeal for NPB pitchers and their track record of success. However, with other teams like the Dodgers, Mets, and Yankees already in talks, it seems unlikely Sasaki will join Boston unless a meeting is arranged soon.

Sasaki, with a 2.35 ERA in 2024, could sign for much less than a traditional free agent, given the $7.5 million limit within the 2025 international bonus pool. For Boston, offering a competitive contract and selling Sasaki on the team’s future is crucial, but time may be running out.
