
The University of Memphis baseball team will host Lindenwood at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field this weekend for a three-game series, starting Friday at 4:05 p.m. instead of the originally scheduled 6:05 p.m. due to potential severe weather.
The first game of the series on Friday will be streamed on GoTigersGo.com, with Jeff Brightwell providing the audio commentary. Saturday’s 2:05 p.m. game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Greg Gaston on the call. Sunday’s series finale is set for a 1:05 p.m. start and will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Tigers are hosting Lindenwood for the second consecutive weekend, having played Southeastern Louisiana the previous week. This series will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams, with Lindenwood in its third season as a Division I school in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Memphis (9-7) comes off a 4-2 loss to Arkansas State on Tuesday, where three errors from the Tigers made the difference. Seth Cox had a perfect 4-for-4 night with four singles, becoming the second Tiger this season with a four-hit game (Will Vasseur vs. LA Tech on 3/1/25).
Memphis lost its first three-game series of the season to Southeastern Louisiana last weekend after winning their first three. The Lions (13-3, 3-0 SLC) won the opening game on Friday, and the Tigers responded with a walk-off win on CJ Willis’ two-run single in extra innings on Saturday to even the series. However, the Lions took the series with a six-run third inning on Sunday.
Lindenwood (8-10) enters the series after dropping two midweek games at Murray State (10-3) earlier this week.
The Lions’ offense is led by Kam Edwards (.441 AVG, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 8 SB) and Tyler Thompson (.435 AVG, 16 RBI, 5 SB).
For Memphis, the weekend rotation will feature RHP Seth Garner (1-1, 3.27 ERA, 17 K / 4 BB), LHP David Case (1-2, 5.09 ERA, 23 K / 8 BB), and a starter yet to be announced for Sunday.
Lindenwood will start RHP Josh Newell (3-1, 4.64 ERA) on Friday, followed by lefties Eli Brown (1-2, 5.87 ERA) and Ethan Smith (2-0, 2.18 ERA) on Saturday and Sunday.
Memphis has been strong defensively, ranking ninth nationally with 17 double plays through 16 games, after finishing 12th nationally last season with 54 double plays.
The Tigers’ pitching staff has also been a standout, posting a 3.98 ERA (140.1 IP), ranking third in The American and 48th nationally. The bullpen, contributing 75.1 of those innings, has allowed just 26 earned runs for a 3.11 ERA.
Extra-base hits have been a key feature of the Tigers’ offense, with 30 doubles (ranking 120th nationally, 5th in the AAC) and four triples (ranking 78th nationally, 5th in the AAC). Out of 115 total hits, 46 (40%) have been for extra bases.
