The Boston Red Sox made another roster move as the regular season draws near.
Relief pitcher will be sent to the team’s minor league camp, reducing the Red Sox’s spring training roster to 56 players. Cruz gave up three runs in each of his two relief appearances during spring training.
Though he didn’t impress this time, he was ranked as the 16th-best MLB prospect by MLB.com in 2020 while with the Chicago Cubs organization.
As noted by Baseball America, Cruz has previously reached speeds over 100 mph, including a fastball recorded at 101.3 mph in 2024, marking the 19th-fastest pitch in the minor leagues.

Over six seasons in the minor leagues, Cruz has posted a 3.63 ERA, 216 strikeouts, and an 11-9 record. He has previously been part of the Cubs and San Diego Padres farm systems before signing a minor league contract with the Red Sox in January, along with a spring training invite.
With 30 more cuts to make before Opening Day, the Red Sox have already made seven roster moves. These include pitchers Brian Van Belle, Jacob Webb, Jovani Martin, Robert Stock, and Luis Perales, all of whom have been sent to the minor league camp, along with outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia.
