The Vikings announced on Sunday that they have reached a multiyear agreement with running back Aaron Jones, who was set to become a free agent when the New League Year begins on Wednesday.
Jones made a significant impact both on the field and within the Minnesota community last season, his first with the Vikings after spending his first seven seasons with NFC North rival Green Bay.
He played in all 17 games for Minnesota, setting career highs with 255 carries and 1,138 rushing yards. He also scored five rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Jones recorded 51 receptions for 408 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell praised Jones for his consistency, saying in January, “I think Aaron brought a level of execution and consistency to that position that really was impactful.”

Jones began his NFL career as a fifth-round pick by the Packers in the 2017 NFL Draft. Over eight seasons, he has played in 114 games (102 starts), accumulating 7,078 rushing yards, 50 touchdowns on 1,432 carries, and has been a reliable target in the passing game with 323 receptions for 2,484 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Before the 2024 season ended, Jones expressed a strong desire to return to the Vikings and remain in Minnesota for the long term.
“I hope to be here,” Jones said. “This is an excellent place. If I can finish my career here, this is where I’d like to finish it.”
