New Mexico Lobos Confirm Big News: Quarterback Devon Transfers to Utah
University of New Mexico’s standout quarterback, Devon , has announced his transfer to the University of Utah. This move comes on the heels of an impressive season where amassed 3,934 yards of total offense, including 2,768 passing yards and 1,166 rushing yards, making him the first Lobo quarterback to surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season.

dynamic performance was instrumental in elevating New Mexico’s offense to national prominence, averaging 484.3 yards per game, ranking fourth nationally. His dual-threat capabilities not only earned him First Team All-Mountain West honors—the first for a UNM quarterback—but also garnered national recognition, including the Week 12 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week award following a standout game against No. 18 Washington State.
The transfer reunites Dampier with former New Mexico offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who recently accepted a position at Utah. Their collaboration at New Mexico yielded a high-octane offense, and expectations are high for a similar impact at Utah. Dampier’s proficiency in Beck’s spread offense, particularly his adeptness at executing run-pass option plays, positions him as a valuable asset for the Utes.
This transition marks a pivotal moment for both programs. While New Mexico faces the challenge of replacing a record-setting quarterback, Utah anticipates integrating Dampier’s explosive playmaking abilities into their offensive scheme, aiming to build upon their recent successes in the Power Four landscape.
