JUST IN: WVU receive Big news regarding gifted RB

The West Virginia football program has made a strong start to the 2027 recruiting class by securing

the commitment of Rivals250 running back  from West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

Hill, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 165 pounds, revealed his decision on social media, choosing the Mountaineers over several early scholarship offers, including those from Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, and Syracuse, among others.

West Virginia had been actively involved in Hill’s recruitment for quite some time, offering him a scholarship in January 2024, with inside wide receivers coach Blaine Stewart leading the charge.

Armand Hill is a versatile athlete with the ability to play both offense and defense, but he was recruited by West Virginia as a running back, where his skill set will be put to great use.

As the first commitment in West Virginia’s 2027 recruiting class, Hill significantly boosts the Mountaineers’ standing in the cycle. Currently ranked as the No. 143 player nationally, Hill earned first-team 2024 Greater Allegheny All-Conference honors last season.

The four-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, felt confident enough to commit early, making him a key addition from an area that West Virginia is eager to recruit.

WVSports.com dives into Hill’s commitment and its significance for the Mountaineers both now and in the future.

Skill Set:

Hill possesses the speed, vision, and footwork ideal for a running back in West Virginia’s offensive system. His excellent vision allows him to quickly identify running lanes, and his speed enables him to break away from defenders for significant gains. At 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Hill also displays strong contact balance, regularly shrugging off arm tackles.

A home-run threat, Hill can turn a small opening into a big play, using his speed to distance himself from defenders. His style of play, with little wasted movement and quick vertical acceleration, fits perfectly into what West Virginia looks for in a running back.

With two years of high school remaining, Hill has plenty of room to grow, making this commitment a valuable addition to the Mountaineers’ program at a key position in their offensive scheme.

Fitting the program:

It’s not going to be difficult to find a place for an athlete as explosive and productive as Hill has been through this stage of his high school career. The explosive athlete will be able to immediately compete for playing time when he arrives on campus and brings the exact skill set that the Mountaineers want in the backfield.

Granted it is still early into his recruitment, but the comfort level he had with the coaching staff as well as the campus was likely critical in reeling in his pledge at this stage of the process.

West Virginia has made it clear that Western Pennsylvania will be a key demographic on the recruiting trail and landing one of the best that the state has to offer in the 2027 cycle certainly goes a long way there. This is the type of commitment that can send early shock waves in the region and will only help to further solidify that the Mountaineers are making the area a key priority.

Recruiting the position:

Anytime you land a talent like Hill this early in the process, it checks some major boxes at any position, but with it being so far out at this stage it’s impossible to determine exactly what else could be on the horizon in the 2027 class. Still, with the coaching staff focusing on creating competition at every level it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Mountaineers continue to target the running back spot even with Hill in the fold.
