Breaking: New Mexico Lobos Receive Heartbreaking News Concerning QB
The University of New Mexico’s football program received devastating news on Tuesday, as starting quarterback, Isaiah Chavez, suffered a season-ending injury during practice.
According to sources within the program, Chavez went down with a non-contact injury during a drill, and initial tests revealed a torn ACL. The injury will require surgery, and Chavez is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
Chavez, a junior, had been a key player for the Lobos, leading the team to several victories last season. His absence will be deeply felt, and the team will need to rely on backup quarterback, CJ Montes, to fill the void.
“We’re heartbroken for Isaiah,” said head coach, Danny Gonzales. “He’s a talented player and an even better teammate. We’ll do everything we can to support him through this tough time.”

The Lobos are set to open their season on September 2nd against the UTEP Miners. With Chavez out, the team will need to regroup and adjust their game plan to compensate for the loss of their starting quarterback.
