Massive boost: Utah Utes strike again, Land commitment for another standout athlete

Utah added another talented athlete to its 2025 signing class with the commitment of a gymnast from Rochester, Minn.

She  will join fellow future Red Rocks Bailey Stroud, Norah Christian, and Sage Curtis for the 2026 competition season.

“We are so excited to welcome Abbi Ryssman to our Red Rock family,” said head coach Carly Dockendorf. “Abbi is an incredible gymnast with flawless execution and an impressive presentation. She brings exceptional precision to all four events, and I’m confident that our Huntsman Center fans will be mesmerized by her beam performances.”

Minnesota gymnast Abbi Ryssman among nation's best

Ryssman gained recognition on the balance beam after winning a national title in 2023 at the USA Gymnastics Development Program’s National Championship in Oklahoma City. Since then, her reputation has soared, earning her a spot among the top 100 gymnasts in the country.

Currently, Ryssman competes for Flips Gymnastics (which is also home to current Red Rock gymnast Ella Zirbes) while attending Rochester Century High School. She holds some of the highest scores in the nation on vault (9.80), bars (9.725), beam (9.825, 9.775, 9.700), and the all-around (38.925, 38.725, 38.575).

Though she grew up in Minnesota, Ryssman has strong connections to Utah. Her parents, Kelli and Dan, met at BYU while both were Division I gymnasts, with her father later attending the University of Utah’s medical school. Ryssman also has numerous relatives still living in Utah, including grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
