Phillies To Land Red Sox $313 Million Superstar In League-Altering Trade

The Boston Red Sox could be facing an issue. Following the signing of star infielder Alex Bregman last week, rumors are circulating that current third baseman is unhappy about shifting from third base to designated hitter to make room for Bregman. There’s a scenario where the Red Sox let this situation escalate. If that happens, Devers may request a trade out of Boston as early as this season. While it’s unlikely, it’s becoming an increasingly possible outcome.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently listed the Philadelphia Phillies as a potential suitor for Devers if the Red Sox end up looking to trade him

“It feels like next offseason is when Philly might try to engineer another marquee addition, but we can never count out Dave Dombrowski when a big-ticket player hits the market,” Kline wrote. “The Phillies are in an active arms race with Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York in a highly competitive National League. Stacking Devers behind Kyle Schwarber, Turner, and Harper in the lineup would go a long way toward cementing the Phils as bonafide, top-of-the-top contenders.”

Reports suggest that Philadelphia has been interested in both Alex Bregman and trade target Nolan Arenado. The Phillies are also said to be willing to trade All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm, which could potentially be part of a trade package for Rafael Devers.

The Phillies could be a logical fit, but their farm system may not be strong enough to realistically pull off a deal.
