UConn Huskies standout Paige Bueckers has suggested that her transition to the WNBA will happen sooner rather than later. Early WNBA mock drafts have Bueckers as the strong favorite to be selected as the No. 1 pick.

“That’s the plan,” Bueckers said on Feb. 7 regarding her intent to join the WNBA after the season, per UConn WBB Weekly. “I’ve learned not to speak on the future, you never know what could happen. But as of right now that’s the plan.”
Through the first 24 games of the college basketball season, Bueckers is averaging 18.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 41.7% from long range.
ESPN’s Michael Voepel’s latest WNBA mock draft has the Dallas Wings selecting Bueckers with the No. 1 pick.
“Bueckers hasn’t indicated whether she prefers not to play in Dallas, but there has been plenty of chatter in the hoops world on that topic,” Voepel wrote on Feb. 7. “As it stands, she is the clear top pick.”
Bueckers would be paired with Wings star Arike Ogunbowale. The veteran has an impressive resume, which includes the most points in Wings franchise history.
Ogunbowale has made four straight WNBA All-Star teams and has been named the game’s MVP in two of these appearances. The star has averaged 18 or more points in all six of her WNBA seasons.
