LATEST: Toronto Blue Jays to land fruition trade for New York Mets top-notch player

The New York Mets have been attempting to re-sign key man to pair him with Juan Soto in their lineup for next season. However, no agreement has been reached, leaving the possibility for another team to sign him away from the Mets. In his predictions for remaining free agents, ESPN’s David Schoenfield speculated that Alonso might join the Toronto Blue Jays.

“The Blue Jays probably have the most to gain in signing Alonso, especially if they’re serious about moving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to third base to accommodate Alonso,” wrote Schoenfield. “No doubt: Guerrero, Alonso and Anthony Santander would provide a power-packed middle of the order to a lineup that ranked 26th in the majors in home runs. If Bo Bichette bounces back from his lost 2024, then you have a team that can score enough runs to make the playoffs.”

A lineup featuring Alonso, Santander, and Guerrero would be an intimidating force in baseball. According to Mets owner Steve Cohen, Alonso has received a “significant offer” from the team.

“This is worse,” Cohen told reporters, comparing Alonso and Soto’s negotiations. “A lot of it is, we’ve made a significant offer. I don’t like the structures that are being presented back to us. I think it’s highly asymmetric against us, and I feel strongly about it.”
