Shocking: St Louis Cardinals receive worst news ever in franchise history

If you’re a St. Louis Cardinals fan hoping to see the team make a splash in the National League Central in 2025, it may be wise to manage your expectations. Although they improved from a rough 71-91 record in 2023 to an 83-79 finish last season, it doesn’t appear that the Cardinals have made the necessary moves this offseason to return to the playoffs, a goal they’ve fallen short of in the past two years.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller is down enough on the Cardinals to put the franchise on a list of teams doomed to “crash and burn” in 2025. According to Miller, the Cardinals seem like a team firmly rooted in rebuilding mode. Not great news for 2025.

“For all intents and purposes, they have the exact same roster that they had four months ago, neither embracing the rebuild they publicly said they would be embracing, nor making any effort to chase an NL Central title which is still kind of there for the taking, Miller wrote. “… Telling your fans you’re building for the future and then not actually doing anything to improve either the present or the future is just bizarre.”

Third baseman Nolan Arenado, who is set to earn $26 million in 2025, is a player who might be traded sooner rather than later.
