The Carolina Panthers have officially added two more players to their roster through future contracts, continuing their active offseason moves. Although the new league year doesn’t start until March 13, limiting most transactions, teams—including those out of playoff contention—can still prepare by signing future contracts.
The Panthers have already secured several players this way, and now they’ve signed tight end James Mitchell and edge rusher Carlos “Boogie” Basham. Both are now part of the active roster. Basham, 27, was a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2021, where current Panthers GM Dan Morgan was involved in his selection. Mitchell, 25, spent last season on the Detroit Lions’ practice squad and has played 30 games over three seasons, recording 13 receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown.
Future contracts are typically signed by players not on the active roster at the end of the season, often including practice squad players. These deals are for the league minimum based on a player’s service time and do not impact the salary cap until free agency begins on March 13.
