Kentucky basketball has played four SEC games so far, and they’ve all embodied the physical, tough nature of the conference. After getting outmuscled by Georgia, the Wildcats silenced critics by showing resilience and toughness in back-to-back physical games, earning consecutive top-15 wins, one of which came on the road.

Mark Pope admitted that his Wildcats are already feeling the wear and tear just four games into SEC play, as is likely the case for other teams in the conference. One of Kentucky’s key players, Andrew Carr, has been dealing with back issues, but he’s pushed through, giving his all on the court. Pope provided an update on Carr’s condition after four conference games.

“Next week we have a full week. Right now, we’re just hanging on, but then we’ll get three consecutive days of practice where we hope to make some progress. He’s not practicing at the moment, and we’re just hoping to have him ready for the game. That’s been our approach the last two weeks. He’s been fighting hard, performing well, and he’s determined to play, so we’ll patch things up as we go.”

With a veteran like Andrew Carr, Pope knows he can manage his recovery to be ready for games, and the staff is doing everything they can to keep him fresh. Next week’s break from mid-week games gives Carr extra time to rest and get back into practice. But first, they face a fast-paced challenge against #4 Alabama on Saturday.
