Zach Pressnell of Newsweek predicted that Gleyber Torres could sign with the Los Angeles Angels in free agency, with a forecasted two-year, $25 million deal. Pressnell pointed out that the Angels, who have shown a willingness to spend by acquiring pitcher Yusei Kikuchi early this offseason, are eager to win now. Adding Torres, a low-risk, high-reward infielder at this point in his career, would be a significant boost for the team.

Though Torres had a down season in 2024, hitting 15 home runs with a .257 average, he still posted an OPS+ over 100. With 138 career home runs, he represents an affordable option. Torres had a strong start to his career with back-to-back All-Star selections. The Yankees, focused on upgrading their roster, may target a third baseman, which could lead to Jazz Chisholm Jr. shifting to second base, reducing the need for Torres.

Pressnell suggested the Angels should act quickly, noting that if things don’t work out, they could trade Torres at the deadline. While the Yankees have the financial means to retain Torres, they are prioritizing roster improvements to replace Juan Soto’s production.
