HUGE BOOST: Colts sign intriguing ‘size-speed’ also 7 ft 6,” 312 pound tight end

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that they have signed former Denver Broncos tight end  to their practice squad, filling an open spot.

Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 258 pounds, Okwuegbunam has recorded 54 receptions for 546 yards (10.1 yards per reception) and 4 touchdowns across 30 games, including 7 career starts. His most recent stint was with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2023 season, where he appeared in 4 games.

Okwuegbunam, a 2020 fourth-round draft pick of the Broncos, is known for his impressive combination of size and speed at the tight end position. However, despite early expectations, he has struggled to consistently make an impact on the field, and his NFL opportunities may be dwindling.

That said, Okwuegbunam has shown flashes as a pass catcher in the past. He is one of the more intriguing practice squad signings the Colts have made in recent years, as he still holds developmental potential, especially in an Indianapolis tight end group seeking consistent contributors.

While it may be a long shot for Okwuegbunam to make an immediate impact, he’s the type of player worth taking a low-risk, high-reward chance on, particularly given that he is still just 26 years old.
