Tony Elliott’s successful day in the transfer portal continued on Sunday as the Virginia Cavaliers secured their third commitment, adding another talented player to the 2025 roster. He brings two years of eligibility with him.
An under-recruited talent from St. Joseph’s High School in New Jersey, he led the MEAC with eight pass breakups in 2023, earning FCS Freshman All-American honors. He followed up with another strong season in 2024, attracting attention from power conference schools. He ultimately chose UVA over Texas Tech, citing the school’s facilities and academic offerings as his main reasons for the decision.
As with the addition of safety Devin Neal, Virginia sees a major opportunity for transfer defensive backs to step in and contribute immediately. With Kempton Shine and Kendren Smith departing, Dre Walker (who has struggled with injuries) and Jam Jackson (who had a difficult season) are the only returning outside corners with significant experience.
While Prevard is unlikely to completely reshape Virginia’s pass defense next year, this is a positive start. His 6-foot-3 frame and lateral quickness should complement John Rudzinski’s defensive scheme well.
Here are some highlight clips Prevard shared on his X account last month:
