The Georgia Bulldogs provided an update on quarterback Carson Beck, casting serious doubt on his availability for the College Football Playoff.

The team confirmed that Beck sustained an elbow injury just before halftime of Saturday’s SEC Championship game. They stated that Beck and his family are exploring treatment options, but there is currently no timeline for his return.

No additional details were shared about the nature of the injury. Georgia has been tight-lipped about Beck’s condition, with head coach Kirby Smart only referring to it as an “upper extremity injury” when addressing the media on Sunday.

As Georgia has a bye in the first round of the CFP, their next game isn’t until January 1, 2025, when they will face the winner of the Notre Dame-Indiana game. The lack of a timeline on Beck’s recovery raises concerns about his readiness by then.

Beck completed 7-of-13 passes for 56 yards in the first half against Texas before getting injured. Sophomore Gunner Stockton stepped in during the second half, leading the Bulldogs to a 22-19 overtime win. If Beck is unavailable for the CFP quarterfinal, Stockton is likely to start.

Although Beck had some inconsistencies in 2024, he still threw for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He had reduced turnovers in recent weeks after a rough stretch in late October and early November. Losing Beck for the quarterfinal would be a significant blow for the Bulldogs.
