Phillies Acquire $80 Million Former Chicago Cubs MVP Winner In Blockbuster Deal To Take Over In Center Field At Citizens Bank Park

The Philadelphia Phillies entered the 2024 season with high hopes of winning the championship, and they responded by capturing their first National League East title since 2011. However, their postseason journey ended prematurely when the New York Mets eliminated them in the NLDS. As the team looks ahead to 2025, changes to the roster appear imminent. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has hinted at significant moves this offseason as the Phillies aim to contend for their first World Series title since 2008.

While free agency remains an option, it seems the trade market is a more likely avenue for roster changes. One name that has surfaced in trade rumors is All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm. In a potential deal, the Phillies could target a major addition, with ESPN’s Dave Schoenfield proposing a three-team trade that would send 2019 NL MVPto Philadelphia.

The Cody Bellinger contract, Jordan Montgomery's market and the MLB moves to come - The Athletic

– Phillies receive: outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger

– Seattle Mariners receive: third baseman Alec Bohm and second baseman Nico Hoerner – Chicago Cubs receive: right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo and catcher Harry Ford

Schoenfield proposed a trade scenario where the Phillies would acquire Cody Bellinger to bolster their outfield, with Edmundo Sosa filling in at third base until top prospect Aidan Miller is ready, likely in 2026. He also suggested that the Cubs and Mariners could send some cash or a lesser prospect to help offset the salary difference between Bellinger and Alec Bohm. While Schoenfield acknowledged that this trade is unlikely to happen, he emphasized the creativity teams can employ to address roster needs.

In this hypothetical deal, Bellinger would take over in center field at Citizens Bank Park, providing a significant upgrade offensively while maintaining strong defensive capabilities. The left-handed hitter would also bring valuable postseason experience from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, adding depth to the Phillies’ lineup for a potential 2025 championship run.
