Good news: Done deal, Atlanta Braves reportedly bolster squad depth with two vital additions

The Braves have re-signed left-handed pitcher  and right-hander  to minor league contracts, according to MLB.com’s transaction tracker. Additionally, lefty Kolton Ingram has joined the organization on a minor league deal.

They were non-tendered by the Braves before last week’s deadline but will return as non-roster depth. Kerr, who started his MLB career with the Padres, posted a solid 4.33 ERA and 4.18 FIP in 27 innings for San Diego in 2023, striking out an impressive 30.3% of hitters. This performance led the Braves to trade for him last winter, taking on the final year of Matt Carpenter’s contract to facilitate the deal. Unfortunately, Kerr struggled early in the 2024 season, with a 5.64 ERA in 10 appearances, before undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. He will now rehab with the Braves, aiming for a potential return in the second half of 2025.

Salinas was claimed off waivers from the A’s earlier this month, marking his second stint with Atlanta after originally signing with them as an international amateur. He spent the first part of his career in the Braves’ system before being traded to Oakland in the Sean Murphy deal. Salinas had difficulty establishing himself in the upper minors, posting a 5.48 ERA at Double-A in 2023 and a 3.68 ERA in a repeat season there in 2024, but he struggled at Triple-A with a 9.95 ERA in 6.1 innings. Looking ahead to 2025, Salinas will serve as non-roster bullpen depth, especially with A.J. Minter becoming a free agent and Joe Jiménez recovering from surgery.

Ingram, who spent 2024 bouncing between four Triple-A teams (Giants, Mets, Rangers, and Cardinals), posted a 3.66 ERA in 51.2 innings while striking out 23.7% of batters. He had a brief stint with the Angels in 2023, where he allowed an 8.44 ERA in 5.1 innings. After over a year since his debut, Ingram will look to earn a spot on the Braves’ roster in 2025.
