HUGE BOOST: Cardinals sign 28-year old dominant catcher to bolster squad depth

The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing back a familiar player.
Talented 28-year old catcher has signed a new deal to remain with the team for the 2026 season, as reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Pozo, 28, appeared in a career-high 68 games and logged 188 plate appearances in 2025.
He batted .231 with a .375 slugging percentage and proved to be a reliable option off the bench as a pinch-hitter.

In his MLB career, Pozo has batted .248 with six home runs in 245 plate appearances.

He’s been a much better hitter in his Triple-A career at .321 with a .525 slugging percentage.

Pozo is also a pretty quality defensive catcher, which is something you want in a guy who projects at best as a backup.

The Cardinals have catchers likely ahead of Pozo. Ivan Herrera, Jimmy Crooks and even Pedro Pages are also in the MLB catching picture.

Pozo has minor league options that can be used, so he’ll be a flexible option for the Cardinals to move up and down from Triple-A Memphis if they want.

St. Louis has lots more to do this offseason. They may trade away a veteran or two as they look to head into a new era.

But at least they know they’ve got more than enough catchers to choose from.
