Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league catcher Luke Heyman.
Hoppe has been added to Seattle’s 40-man roster. To make room, the Mariners designated left-handed pitcher for assignment.
Seattle’s 40-man roster remains at capacity.
Hoppe, 26, split the 2025 season between Triple-A Worcester and Double-A Portland. With Worcester, he appeared in 37 games, posting an 0–2 record and a 4.76 ERA (24 ER, 45.1 IP) with 24 walks and 56 strikeouts. Overall, across 44 minor league outings in 2025, he went 1–3 with a 4.55 ERA (31 ER, 61.1 IP) while walking 34 and striking out 73.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-hander has pitched in parts of three minor league seasons in the Red Sox system (2023–25), compiling a career 7–13 record and 4.76 ERA (93 ER, 176.0 IP) with 15 saves, 88 walks, and 203 strikeouts.
A native of Davenport, Iowa, Hoppe was selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Heyman, 22, was drafted by Seattle in the 14th round of the 2025 MLB Draft from the University of Florida and has not yet played professionally.
The 6-foot-4 catcher hit .301 (52-for-173) with 21 extra-base hits—including 13 home runs—44 RBI, and 22 walks for the Gators in 2025, producing a .397 on-base percentage and .578 slugging percentage (.975 OPS) in 49 games before a season-ending injury. Over three collegiate seasons, he batted .282 (177-for-628) with 41 homers and 135 walks.
Saucedo, 32, appeared in 10 games for Seattle in 2025, recording a 7.43 ERA (11 ER, 13.1 IP) with 6 walks and 12 strikeouts. In 22 games for Triple-A Tacoma that same season, he went 3–0 with a 2.75 ERA (6 ER, 19.2 IP), walking 10 and striking out 24.
The 6-foot-4 left-hander has pitched in 115 games for Seattle across parts of the 2023–25 seasons, going 5–2 with 4 saves and a 4.06 ERA (45 ER, 99.2 IP) along with 47 walks and 93 strikeouts.
Originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan University, Saucedo debuted for Toronto on June 17, 2021. He was claimed off waivers by the Mets on Nov. 9, 2022, and later by the Mariners on Jan. 31, 2023.
Born in Hawaii and raised in Washington, the Tahoma High School (Maple Valley, WA) alum has made 148 career MLB appearances with Toronto (2021–22) and Seattle (2023–present), compiling a 5–2 record with 4 saves and a 4.36 ERA (62 ER, 128.0 IP) with 58 walks and 112 strikeouts.
