At the Boston Red Sox’s season-ending press conference on Monday, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow revealed that starting catcher Carlos Narváez is set to undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury.
At the time, Breslow stated that Narváez’s operation was the only procedure the team had to report. However, it was later revealed that the other catcher on the roster also required a minor procedure, indicating both players at the position are recovering from offseason surgeries.
Connor Wong, the Red Sox’s former starting catcher who became the backup to Narváez this season, underwent successful surgery on his right hand, the Red Sox announced on Thursday.

Wong’s unexpected surgery took place Wednesday
According to Christopher Smith of MassLive, the second catcher who underwent a procedure was Connor Wong, who had a right-hand carpal boss excision on Wednesday. This condition involves removing a bony lump on the back of the hand and is unrelated to the left-hand pinky fracture that sidelined him earlier in the season.
The Red Sox have not provided an official timeline for Wong’s recovery, but given the nature of the procedure, it’s unlikely to affect his availability for the start of the regular season.
