Red Sox Eye Stunning $120 Million Reunion with Superstar – Is This The Move They Need?

The Boston Red Sox invested $120 million to acquire Alex Bregman in the offseason, but with the opt-out clause in his contract, he may return to free agency this winter.

If Bregman decides to opt out, his market will be competitive once again, as the experienced player is expected to seek a long-term deal near $200 million.

Alex Bregman Extension Talk Fuels Hope for Red Sox's Future

Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated recently mentioned that the Red Sox could be among the top contenders for Bregman, should he exercise his opt-out option after this season. All indications point toward him opting out when the season concludes.

“Bregman comes with the caveat that he has an opt-out in his deal so he’s not guaranteed to be a free agent. That seems likely after a great first season in Boston,” McAvoy wrote. “He’s among the league’s best offensive third basemen, has won a Gold Glove, is a leader in the clubhouse, and has plenty of playoff success. What else could you ask for?

“The Red Sox fit is obvious. He has been great in Boston and has helped completely change the perception of the organization after three rough years.”

The Red Sox are the obvious top team for Bregman. He’s seemingly loved his time in Boston, and the Red Sox seem to love having him in town.

It would be an expensive deal to get done, but this is the kind of move the Red Sox desperately need to make to continue their pursuit of the World Series.
