Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on Kodai Senga on Tuesday, as originally reported by Athlon Sports.
The 32-year-old right-hander, who boasts a 7-3 record with a remarkable 1.47 ERA, has been a key asset for the Mets this season. However, he’s been sidelined since June 12 due to a hamstring injury. Despite his absence, Senga has been dominant, not allowing more than three earned runs in any of his 13 starts.

The Mets’ recent struggles—losing three in a row and posting a 3-7 record over their last 10 games—have been compounded by his absence. The team has now fallen behind the Philadelphia Phillies by two games for first place in the NL East.
Carlos Mendoza says that Kodai Senga faced hitters on Sunday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen and do PFPs tomorrow.

“Senga faced hitters on Sunday. So he had an up-and-down live BP, he’s scheduled to throw a bullpen tomorrow and do some PFP, and then we’ll see where we’re at after that bullpen,” he said. “But he already faced hitters on Sunday, so that’s a step in the right direction.”
Senga is still on the 15-day IL.
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound pitcher made an impressive start to his career in 2023, finishing his rookie season with a 12-7 record and a solid 2.98 ERA across 29 starts. However, injuries plagued him in 2024, as he was limited to just one regular season appearance due to shoulder and calf issues. He also struggled in the postseason, posting an 0-1 record with a 12.60 ERA over three playoff outings.
