BAD DECISSION: Braves Set To cut ties with 30-year-old All-Star

The Atlanta Braves could be fielding some interesting trade calls as this year’s MLB trade deadline approaches.

After starting the season 0-7, the Braves have rebounded to a 22-22 record. While early speculation about trading away stars like Marcell Ozuna has faded, the possibility of moving a player from their major league roster still exists.

One such candidate is shortstop Orlando Arcia. Though he was a surprise All-Star in 2023, his offensive production has sharply declined since the second half of that season. With top prospect Nacho Alvarez Jr. progressing in the minors, Atlanta may be open to moving Arcia.

According to ClutchPoints writer Zachary Howell, the Los Angeles Angels could be a potential landing spot. The Braves and Angels have a history of trades, and the Angels are currently thin in infield depth.

“Arcia is the kind of player a team might try to move for the best offer, and the Angels could be eager to take a chance,” Howell wrote.

While Zach Neto holds down shortstop for the Angels, there’s room for shuffling, with Neto possibly shifting to third to compete with Yoan Moncada. The goal would be to find a good fit for Arcia, and Los Angeles may be a team willing to take that chance.

Arcia’s trade value is unclear, as he’s struggled at the plate this season — hitting just .194 with a .445 OPS and a 25 OPS+ over 13 games. If the Angels are interested, they could likely acquire him for a low-level prospect. A new environment might help Arcia recapture some of the power that earned him an All-Star nod not long ago.
