Gonzaga Bulldogs receive unfortunate news regarding talented guard

Talented transfer from San Francisco, has committed to Virginia over Gonzaga Bulldogs according to reports.

The 6-foot-4 guard will use his final year of eligibility with the Cavaliers after receiving an NCAA waiver that allows him to play as a grad transfer. Thomas has been regarded as one of the top guards on the market since entering the transfer portal over a month ago.

Virginia had long been seen as the frontrunner to secure Thomas. While it’s unclear how much interest Gonzaga had in his recruitment, it’s possible that even with the addition of Arizona State transfer Adam Miller, the Bulldogs would have welcomed another seasoned guard to their backcourt.

Malik Thomas is a Wahoo

Gonzaga fans got a close look at Malik Thomas during his 25-point performance in San Francisco’s 88-77 loss to the Zags this past February. After being held to 13 points in a game at the Chase Center, Thomas bounced back in the WCC Tournament with an impressive 27 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals against Gonzaga.

Coming off his fourth season of college basketball, Thomas earned all-conference honors after leading the West Coast Conference in scoring. He averaged 19.9 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc. In addition, Thomas contributed 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, playing 31.8 minutes on average.
