Montana has added another transfer from the portal, securing a 6-3 guard from UNLV. Hicks, who hails from Seattle, Washington, becomes the fifth player this offseason to sign a scholarship with the Grizzlies.
Hicks played his first two college seasons at UNLV, where he participated in 65 games overall. During the 2024-25 season, he played in 33 games, starting in the last seven.
He scored 221 points in his two seasons, averaging 3.4 points per game with 55 total assists. Hicks averaged 3.0 rebounds per game last season with 23 total steals.
“Brooklyn will be a great addition to our program,” head coach Travis DeCuire said. “A lot of talent is walking out the door right now on both sides of the ball, and we think that Brooklyn will have a big impact in that regard for us as we continue to try to be a team that is very versatile offensively and defensively.”
The Runnin’ Rebels went 39-28 in the two years with Hicks on the roster. They reached the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament both years, and also advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT during Hicks’ freshman season.
“I’m very excited,” Hicks said of joining Montana. “Winning program is the biggest thing, Montana has shown it can win since Travis has been there, so I’m honored to be recruited by a program like this and to have them want me on their team.”
After UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger was dismissed this season, Hicks entered his name in the transfer portal. He quickly heard from DeCuire and the Grizzlies. DeCuire, who is also from Seattle, had plenty of connections through mutuals with Hicks, which helped the early conversations.
“Travis was actually the first person to call me when my name went into the portal,” Hicks said. “The process wasn’t that quick where I committed right away, but he had some good talks, he got me out there on a visit, and then the rest is history.”
Hicks plays a high-intensity brand of basketball with versatility on both sides of the floor.
“I bring high energy every single day. You will see me talking a lot, getting on the floor, and playing some defense,” Hicks said. “Also expect a lot more from me this year than you’ve seen in the last two years, and be looking out for my name this year because it’s going to be a good one.”
Hicks is the fifth addition of the offseason for Montana, and the third guard. He joins Courtney Anderson Jr. (Colorado) and Tyler Isaak (Citrus College) at the guard position. Kadyn Betts (Minnesota) and Trae Taylor (Chico State) have also joined Montana in the frontcourt.
