BREAKING: St. Louis Cardinals made a pretty big announcement And made a big decision on Saturday…

The St. Louis Cardinals made a noteworthy roster move on Saturday, calling up promising young pitcher Michael McGreevy to the major leagues. This decision comes after the team suffered a tough loss to the New York Mets in the opening game of a three-game series.

According to MLB.com’s John Denton, McGreevy has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis, while Roddery Muñoz was optioned back to the minors. McGreevy impressed during Spring Training and is considered one of the organization’s most highly regarded pitching prospects, despite not yet making an appearance in the majors this season. He posted a 1.96 ERA in four outings last year.

Cardinals manager Oli Marmol explained that McGreevy is being added as a “protection” option — someone who can eat innings if the starters falter, especially with weather possibly disrupting the weekend games.

The move has generated excitement among fans who have been eager to see McGreevy back on the mound for St. Louis.
