SAD NEWS: “Thank you, Miami,” Miami Hurricanes Suffer Another Great lose

The Hurricanes saw a change in their special teams unit this week, as second-year kicker Abram Murray announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“Thank you, Miami,” Murray wrote in a social media post. “Thank you for making me the first kicker offered in 2024… I loved my time in Coral Gables and will always value my time in the 305. For all the coaches, especially Coach Maalouf, thank you.”

Murray, originally from Louisiana, committed to Miami in July 2022 and spent just one season with the program. He appeared in two games as a freshman, hitting a 38-yard field goal against Florida A&M and converting all four of his extra-point attempts. He was seen as a potential replacement for standout kicker Andres Borregales, a top NFL draft prospect.

With Murray moving on, the Hurricanes now look to Carter Davis and Will Rocha to step up at the position. Davis, a transfer from Florida Atlantic and Fort Lauderdale native, is expected to lead the kicking duties in 2025. Though he has struggled with accuracy—connecting on just 4-of-11 field goals over three seasons—he showcased a big leg last year, making two of three from beyond 50 yards.

He’s also a strong asset on kickoffs, posting an 86.4 grade from Pro Football Focus on 61 kickoffs in 2024. Forty-six of those were touchbacks, and only 18 percent were returned, ranking him among the best in the nation in that category.

Rocha, meanwhile, has limited game experience, with just one successful extra point in his collegiate career.

While Murray’s departure isn’t a major hit numbers-wise, it leaves Miami with questions about consistency and reliability at kicker moving forward.
