BREAKING: UNC Abruptly lose another potential star to the transfer portal

As anticipated, the offseason has been quite hectic for the UNC basketball program. With numerous changes, both incoming and outgoing, it was clear that North Carolina’s roster would undergo significant transformation by the start of the 2025-2026 season.

One of the most fascinating players we’ve been eager to hear from is Ven-Allen Lubin. Standing at 6-foot-8, Lubin is considered undersized for a big man. He transferred to the Tar Heels from Vanderbilt prior to last season and quickly became a key contributor, ultimately earning the role of starting center for the team.

In fact, one could argue that Lubin was the Tar Heels’ standout player during the final stretch of the season, capping it off with 11 straight games of double-digit scoring. Over those 11 games, he also registered four double-doubles, establishing himself as a dominant force in the paint for UNC.

North Carolina’s offseason focus was on adding size, and they certainly accomplished that by bringing in Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar, a 7-foot, 235-pound center. This move sparked speculation about what it might mean for Lubin’s role with the Tar Heels, and now we have the answer.

Lubin has entered the transfer portal—but with a twist.

As Jeff Goodman reported, this is a business move for Ven-Allen Lubin. He intends to stay at North Carolina but is keeping his options open from the potential issues post-House settlement makes a lot of sense.

While we all panicked that Ven-Allen Lubin was entering the transfer portal, we can all breathe a sigh of relief (for now), that the plan remains the same: Ven-Allen Lubin plans on finishing his collegiate career as a Tar Heel.
