NC State football has taken a hit to its backfield depth as one of its running backs has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal.
The news was confirmed on Sunday, though the player’s name has not yet been publicly announced by the university. Sources close to the program indicate the departure stems from a desire for more playing time and a fresh start elsewhere.
This marks another shakeup in the Wolfpack’s roster as they continue spring practices and prepare for the upcoming 2025 season. The departure creates an opportunity for younger players to step up in the running back rotation, with sophomore Jordan Waters and redshirt freshman Malik Hill expected to see increased reps.
Head coach Dave Doeren has not yet commented on the transfer but is expected to address roster changes later this week.

NC State finished last season with a strong showing in the ACC and had been looking to build on that momentum. The team’s depth at key offensive positions, especially running back, will be a storyline to watch as the summer unfolds.
More updates to come as details emerge.
