SF 49ers Confirms Big News: Brock Purdy Contract Negotiations Heat Up

The San Francisco 49ers are facing a critical juncture as quarterback Brock Purdy’s contract negotiations intensify. With Purdy’s current deal set to expire soon, the 49ers’ front office, led by GM John Lynch, is working diligently to secure a long-term extension. According to reports, the team views April 21, the start of the offseason program, as a pseudo-deadline for Purdy to commit to joining the team without a contract extension.

Purdy’s camp is pushing for a deal worth around $50-55 million per year, while the 49ers have reportedly lowballed his initial offer. The team is navigating a tight salary cap situation, with $301.99 million in liabilities and Trent Williams’ $34.1 million cap hit contributing to the financial strain. Securing Purdy’s extension might require the 49ers to make financial adjustments, potentially involving restructuring contracts for players like Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle.

Purdy’s leadership and performance have been instrumental in the 49ers’ success, with 4,280 passing yards in 2023 and a perfect passer rating game. Losing him would significantly impact the team’s chances of winning a Super Bowl. The 49ers’ roster is stacked with talent, and Purdy’s extension is crucial to maintaining their competitive edge.
