MAJOR BOOST: UNC, Hubert Davis land starting power forward from top-5 SEC school

Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels fell short of expectations during the 2024-25 season. Although they secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament, it was evident that this iteration of the team wasn’t built to compete for a national title.

However, the Tar Heels are already making moves this offseason to strengthen their roster and return to championship contention.

On Tuesday evening, news broke that North Carolina had made a significant addition via the NCAA transfer portal, picking up a former starter from Alabama.

According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Jarin Stevenson has committed to transfer from Alabama to North Carolina.

“Alabama transfer Jarin Stevenson will transfer to North Carolina, source told @TheFieldOf68. Stevenson’s family is from Chapel Hill and his mother played for the Tar Heels so this one wasn’t all that surprising.”

Stevenson, who started 22 games for Alabama during the 2024-25 season, could be in line for a starting role at UNC as well.

He posted averages of 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, shooting 42.9% from the field and 30.7% from beyond the arc.

While Stevenson’s addition is a strong start, the Tar Heels still have work to do this offseason to become serious contenders for a national championship once again.
