Washington State Cougars confirm unexpected news as another talented player leaves program

The Washington State women’s basketball team has lost a fifth player to the NCAA transfer portal, as junior guard  recently entered, as reported by On3 Sports’ Talia Goodman.

She joins Dayana Mendes, Alice Dart, Jenna Villa, and Candace Kpetikou, all of whom are also leaving WSU to pursue opportunities at other schools.

Up close with WSU's fantastic freshman point guard Astera Tuhina

Tuhina started in all 35 games this season, averaging over 31 minutes per game. She recorded 7.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and a team-high 3.7 assists per game. As the Cougars’ fifth-leading scorer, she shot 36.4% from the field and from beyond the arc. Tuhina had a standout performance with 18 points against Pacific in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals and also hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to secure a win over Utah Valley in the third round of the Women’s NIT last week.

The Kosovo native averaged at least seven points per game throughout all three of her seasons at WSU. She now plans to take her skills to another program for her final year of eligibility—unless she decides to return to Washington State for one more season under head coach Kamie Ethridge.
