Phillies Star Projected To Sign 4-Year, $85 Million Deal With Blue Jays

The Philadelphia Phillies appear comfortable with the possibility of free-agent pitcher Ranger Suárez joining another team this offseason.

With several standout arms already in their rotation — including top prospect Andrew Painter, who could be ready for the majors by Opening Day — Philadelphia isn’t expected to make a major financial push to keep Suárez. So where might the left-hander land?

Bailey Bassett of ClutchPoints recently predicted that Suárez could secure a substantial four-year, $85 million contract this winter, naming the Toronto Blue Jays as the strongest potential fit for him.

“The Philadelphia Phillies have a lot of impending free agents. A handful of them will surely bolt in free agency. Ranger Suarez might not be an ace, but he is a really good second or third starting pitcher,” Bassett wrote. “If the Blue Jays are willing to pay Bichette, they need to also add the pieces that can get them over the hump and past the Dodgers. Los Angeles clearly had the better rotation in the World Series, but adding Suarez would help change that.”

The Blue Jays are one of the best teams in the league, but they need to add to the pitching staff.

They’re expected to pursue Bo Bichette in free agency, but adding Suárez as well could be an option. Placing the left-hander at the front of their rotation would strengthen their chances of returning to the World Series in the coming seasons. When he’s at his best, he has the talent to pitch like a true ace.
