BREAKING: St. Louis Cardinals Lose ‘Elite’ Infielder After Harsh Move

It’s evident that the Chaim Bloom–led St. Louis Cardinals will look markedly different, beginning this offseason with a major overhaul aimed at the team’s future.

One indication of this shift is the club’s willingness to move some of its more recognizable players, and Brendan Donovan has now emerged as a name circulating in trade conversations.

If Brendan Donovan is made available by the Cardinals, the New York Yankees make sense to be the team to trade for him.

After their early postseason exit, the New York Yankees must make meaningful changes to reshape their roster for the future, because their current level of play isn’t sustainable if their goal is to win another World Series—not merely make an appearance.

Cardinals Brendan Donovan shows off defensive skills

They need to upgrade their shortstop spot as Anthony Volpe is out to start the season with needing shoulder surgery, and isn’t exactly the most impactful player in the lineup when he is healthy. That is where a trade for Brendan Donovan can fix this.

Brendan Donovan was called up to MLB in 2022, and since then he has had a .361 on-base percentage since then, which ranks him 15th in the entire league. Donovan is continuing to evolve his game as well, he is just coming off a season where he had a .287/.353/.422 slash line with 10 home runs, and earned his first All-Star appearance

With Brendan Donovan, he is a high-contact hitter. Since 2022, Donovan has had the 12th-best contact rate, and ranks 15th for the lowest strikeout rate in that span with 13.5%.

With Brendan Donovan being just 28 years old, he would provide the Yankees with an immense boost to their infield while also providing them with another player that can make an impact in the lineup alongside Aaron Judge.
