BREAKING: Cubs To Steal $182 Million Superstar From Red Sox In Free Agent Deal

The Chicago Cubs made a bold move last offseason by trading for Kyle Tucker, but with Tucker now entering free agency, it appears unlikely that the team will bring him back.

Instead, the Cubs might shift their focus to free-agent infielder. According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, Bregman is expected to land a massive $182 million contract. While such a deal would be one of the largest in Cubs history, it’s considered a more feasible option than re-signing Tucker.

Gabe Lacques of USA Today recently reveal the Cubs will sign Bregman away from the Boston Red Sox this offseason.

Alex Bregman Rumors And Free Agency News 2025-2026

The Cubs are in need of a third baseman with Alex Bregman’s level of talent. While Matt Shaw has shown glimpses of promise, he could easily shift to another infield position if Chicago manages to bring in Bregman.

When healthy last season, Bregman was among the top infielders in the American League. However, the Red Sox may be open to moving on from him as they pursue other marquee players. Pete Alonso could be a strong fit in Boston, potentially signaling the end of Bregman’s tenure with the team.

If the Cubs want Bregman, they’re going to need to give out a huge contract. The Cubs aren’t notorious for signing huge free agents, so it would be a bit out of their comfort zone. Still, signing Bregman would keep them afloat in the National League Central.
