BREAKING: Cincinnati Reds receive unfortunate news regarding veteran reliever

After being removed from the Reds’ roster earlier this week, veteran reliever  has chosen to enter free agency.

The 31-year-old pitched in 25 games for Cincinnati this season, posting a 4.62 ERA. Injuries hampered his 2025 campaign, as he spent several stretches on the injured list.

Gibaut’s rehab assignment was halted in August, and he later underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and reattach his biceps tendon to his upper arm, per MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon.

Over four seasons with Cincinnati, the veteran right-hander appeared in 143 games, recording a 3.92 ERA and 133 strikeouts across 137 2/3 innings.

There remains a possibility that Gibaut could re-sign with the Reds.

Fellow reliever Emilio Pagán is also set to hit free agency this offseason, leaving Cincinnati in need of a few bullpen additions to solidify the staff for the 2026 campaign.

The Reds finished 2025 with an 83–79 record, earning their first postseason berth since 2020 before being eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in two games during the National League Wild Card Series.
