BREAKING: Cincinnati Reds Release Struggling Pitcher From First Team

According to the team’s Minor League transaction log, the Cincinnati Reds have sent veteran pitcher  to Triple-A Louisville. Gibaut has the right to decline the assignment and instead elect free agency.

The 31-year-old appeared in 25 games for the Reds this season, posting a 4.62 ERA. Injuries were a recurring issue for him in 2025, as he spent multiple stretches on the injured list.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon, Gibaut’s rehab assignment was halted in August, and he subsequently underwent surgery to repair his labrum and reattach his biceps tendon to his upper arm.

Staggering spring training statistic that may see Ian Gibaut on the Reds Opening Day roster

Over four seasons with Cincinnati, the veteran has made 143 appearances, recording a 3.92 ERA and 133 strikeouts across 137 2/3 innings.

While it wouldn’t be surprising if Gibaut opts for free agency, his return would provide valuable depth to an already strong Reds pitching staff.

The Reds went 83-79 in 2025 and made the postseason for the first time since 2020. They fell in two games to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Wild Card Series.
