Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has decided to exercise his player opt-out clause, walking away from the three-year, $120 million deal he signed with Boston last spring, according to a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Bregman, 31, posted a .273 batting average with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs during his only season with the Red Sox.

While Boston is expected to make a strong push to bring him back—and may even be considered the frontrunner—Heyman notes that Bregman will draw interest from other teams as well. Among the likely contenders are the Blue Jays and Mariners, both still active in the ALCS, along with the Tigers.
Bregman was offered $171.5 million over six years by the Tigers last offseason, which would have reunited him with A.J. Hinch, his former manager in Houston. Instead, Bregman opted for a three-year deal with the Red Sox that included multiple opt-outs.
