Mariners Cut Ties With 28-Year-Old Pitcher After Disappointing Stint

The Seattle Mariners have officially parted ways with left-handed pitcher, the team announced Monday afternoon. The 28-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment following a series of underwhelming performances that failed to meet the club’s expectations.

Jacques, who was acquired by Seattle in the offseason as a low-risk bullpen option, struggled to find consistency during his time in the Mariners’ organization. In 18 relief appearances this season, he posted a 6.42 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks across 21 innings. His command issues and inability to escape high-leverage situations ultimately led to a loss of confidence from the coaching staff.

Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018, Jacques made his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox in 2023 before bouncing between organizations. Despite showing flashes of potential with his deceptive delivery and sinker-heavy arsenal, he was unable to lock down a consistent role in Seattle’s bullpen.

The Mariners are expected to call up a younger arm from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the vacant roster spot as they continue to reshape their bullpen during the final stretch of the season.

Jacques will now go through waivers, where other teams will have the opportunity to claim him. If unclaimed, he could be outrighted to the minors or elect free agency.
