The Philadelphia Phillies have now lost nine straight games at Citi Field following Tuesday’s defeat to the New York Mets. With that win, the Mets continue to narrow the Phillies’ lead in the National League East. As the Phillies aim to secure both the division title and the top seed in the National League, their ongoing difficulties in New York raise concerns. However, Kyle Schwarber dismissed any idea that a “stigma” around playing at Citi Field is impacting the team’s performance.

“It’s more about us getting back to us and playing our game,” Schwarber told The Athletic’s Matt Gelb. “I don’t give a hell about the stigma. It’s on us to go out there and win a game at the end of the day.” Schwarber thinks the Mets’ home-field advantage has nothing to do with the Phillies’ struggles. He simply thinks that his team needs to perform better, regardless of the venue.
Kyle Schwarber is putting together an MVP-worthy season, and the Phillies entered Wednesday holding a five-game lead in the NL East. Despite recent struggles, Schwarber’s comments reflect confidence in his team’s ability to fend off the Mets—emphasizing that it begins with improved performance. He went 0-for-4 in Tuesday’s loss and is hitless in the series so far at 0-for-7. The Phillies managed to rally from an early deficit but ultimately fell short, losing on a walk-off hit by Brandon Nimmo in the ninth inning.
