The St. Louis Cardinals won’t be losing one of their core players for the rest of the season.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Masyn Winn has been experiencing knee discomfort, which prompted an MRI. The issue has been ongoing, and he even received an injection around the All-Star break.
This sparked speculation — including from me — that the team might consider shutting him down for the season. However, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic, Winn is fine and not in danger of worsening the injury. Woo also provided updates on Brendan Donovan, Nolan Arenado, and Victor Scott II.
Cardinals provide four injury updates; including to Nolan Arenado

“Cardinals injury updates: Brendan Donovan is hitting off the tee. Victor Scott II is hitting and is hoping to progress to more routes later in the week,” Woo said. “Nolan Arenado started a hitting program, will begin a throwing program this week. No timetables for returns for any of the 3…
“As for Masyn Winn, MRI showed improvement from last month. Cardinals believe he is not risking anything for the 2026 season. The team will manage it on a day-by-day/tolerance basis.”

Masyn Winn returned to the lineup Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, going 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Brendan Donovan, who hasn’t played since August 13th due to lingering injuries, is now back to participating in baseball activities — a positive sign. Victor Scott II, sidelined since August 16th with a left ankle sprain, remains out. Nolan Arenado has been out since July 30th as he continues rehabbing a shoulder injury.

There was speculation that Arenado might be shut down for the season after he landed on the Injured List following the trade deadline. However, recent reports indicate he and the team are aiming for a September return.
While the Cardinals still aren’t at full strength, these updates reflect encouraging progress.
