The Dallas Wings have one of the WNBA’s brightest rising stars in 2025 No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers. Selecting her with the top pick instantly raised the franchise’s future outlook.
Bueckers has certainly lived up to the hype in her rookie season, even challenging and breaking some of Caitlin Clark’s rookie records.
Despite her standout performance, the team has continued to struggle, and it looks like they’re on track for another high pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Unfortunately, there is a concerning update about Bueckers worth keeping a very close eye on.
According to Wings’ reporter Grant Afseth, Paige Bueckers exited Tuesday night’s game against the New York Liberty in the middle of the third quarter after appearing to suffer a back injury.
Following the game, Bueckers referred to the injury as a “pulled muscle.”
Afseth also shared additional quotes from Bueckers, where she expressed hope that she wouldn’t have to miss any time. The fact that she’s concerned about the possibility of being sidelined is troubling, especially given how pivotal she’s been to the team’s performance this season.

“I think it was in the third quarter. I was just dribbling the ball up and I felt a sort of tightness come along. It was pretty random,” Bueckers said.
“I’m hoping it won’t take me out. I’ll get some treatment, get some rest, take some medicine. So I’m hoping it doesn’t take me out.”
So far in her rookie season, Paige Bueckers has played in 24 games, putting up impressive numbers: 18.6 points per game, 5.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. She’s also shooting 45.7% from the field and hitting 33.3% of her three-pointers.
The Wings’ next game is a rematch against the Liberty on Friday night at home, giving Bueckers a couple of days to rest and receive treatment. Hopefully, that’s enough for her to recover and keep her dominant rookie season on track.
It’s definitely a concerning update for Dallas, but Bueckers remains hopeful that she won’t miss any time. We can expect more news on her condition soon, as the Wings—and fans—are eagerly awaiting any updates.
