Texas Rangers Receive Another Unfortunate News Regarding First Baseman

The Texas Rangers’ first baseman, will be placed on the injured list for the second time this season when the team resumes action after the All-Star break.

The Rangers put him on the 10-day IL on Wednesday due to a left quad strain. The move was made retroactive to Sunday, the day after Burger struck out as a pinch-hitter in the 10th inning against Houston. He had left Friday night’s game in the sixth inning of the series opener against the AL West-leading Astros.

The Rangers (48-49) haven’t made a corresponding roster move yet. They’re set to begin a three-game home series against Detroit (59-38) on Friday night. Despite a four-game losing streak, the Tigers still hold the best record in the majors.

Jul 10, 2025; Anaheim, California, USA; Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (21) gestures after hitting a RBI double in the third inning as Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo (2) watches at Angel Stadium.

Jake Burger, who’s batting .228 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs over 75 games in his first season with Texas, had only played in 10 games since coming back from his previous stint on the IL. He missed 10 games from June 21 to July 2 due to a left oblique strain.

Texas acquired Burger from Miami in a trade last December. After struggling with a .190 average, three homers, and a team-high 32 strikeouts in 100 at-bats over his first 30 games, the Rangers briefly sent him to Triple-A Round Rock. Since his return to the majors, he’s posted a .250 average with eight home runs and 23 RBIs in 45 games.
